Dry Dock – Our favourite restaurant on the Waterfront in Knysna.
Bryan and I lived in KwaZulu-Natal before moving to Sedgefield in 2020 and we came for a holiday to Knysna in October 2019. That was when we decided we definitely wanted to relocate to the beautiful Garden Route in the Western Cape of South Africa.

We were actually visiting during the 2019 Rugby World Cup and we watched South Africa win over England in the Final at the restaurant called “Oyster and Tapas” on Thesen Island.
The other great victory during that holiday, was discovering the restaurant “Dry Dock” at the Waterfront in Knysna.
We arrived in Knysna at around 2pm, after a two day drive and headed straight to the Waterfront to find somewhere to have lunch.
We came across Dry Dock and saw they sold sushi (not a cuisine we could easily get in the Drakensberg Mountains in KwaZulu-Natal), so we sat down in the sun beside the glistening water of the lagoon and ate the best sushi I have ever tasted.
4 years later and on the day of the opening game of 2023 Rugby World Cup (Friday 8th September), Bryan and I found ourselves again enjoying Dry Dock’s delightfully delicious sushi and it is still the best I have ever had!
Dry Dock at The Waterfront in Knysna has a wonderful menu with something for everyone. They serve a huge variety of fish and seafood dishes, but there are also a great choice of meals for meat lovers and vegetarians too, as well as a children’s menu.
There is seating indoors as well as two separate outdoor seating sections. The outdoor areas are on the Waterfront and have lovely views of the Knysna Lagoon and the multiple boats moored in the marina.

The beautiful setting of Dry Dock is also worth a mention. The peace and tranquility of the sparkling water of the Knysna Lagoon, the comings and goings of the boats slipping in and out of the marina, the view over the dunes and towards The Knysna Heads, not to mention the setting sun if you happen to be there for an evening meal.
These moments, accompanied by mouth-watering meals and a fabulous variety of local wines, oh, and not forgetting the incredibly friendly and professional staff and service, result in a truly wonderful dining experience.

Dry Dock at the Waterfront in Knysna also offers daily specials (usually served between 11am and 4pm), so if you happen to be visiting out of season, make sure you also check out the special on offer that day. One of our favourites is the Seafood Platter for two. Scrumptious and excellent value!

On Saturdays, Dry Dock at the Waterfront in Knysna also often have life music from 1pm – 4pm, so if you fancy visiting on a Saturday, you will enjoy everything mentioned above, plus some fantastic live music too.
I really hope that you visit Dry Dock at the Waterfront during your visit or stay in Knysna, or if you live locally and haven’t been yet. It really is an exceptionally great restaurant and I am sure you will love it and the setting too.
