Herolds Bay

Where to stay and what to do in Herolds Bay.
Herolds Bay is a small seaside village about 15kms west of George. This page will provide some information about where to stay and what to do in Herolds Bay.
Take the same exit off the N2 (exit 425) as George Airport, but head towards the ocean, instead of inland.
Herolds Bay is perched on a rocky cove and is sheltered from the prevailing South-easterly winds that blow in off the ocean. It has an unspoilt and secluded sandy beach with a beautiful tidal pool and many natural rock pools, ideal for exploring and snorkelling. The bay itself is also ideal for swimming, surfing and fishing.
Dolphins and seals are often seen splashing around in the bay and during the months of July to November, if you are lucky you may spots whales travelling past in the ocean.
Herolds Bay is a popular holiday village with many holiday homes, guesthouses and bed and breakfasts. There is also a hotel at the Oubaai Golf Estate, on the hill over-looking the ocean. Here you will also find the Ernie Els 18-hole Championship Golf Course.
There are several hiking trails of be found in the area, including the Herolds Bay Cliff Walk (an easy walk from Herolds Bay beach along and up the cliff to a look out point, that can also be reached via a dirt road from the main tar road into Herolds Bay).
There is also the Heritage Trail, a 12.6km circular trail which starts at the Oubaai Golf Estate and meanders through the indigenous forests, along the Gwaing River to the coastal cliffs. This is a challenging walk and takes about 4-5 hours.
The Oubaai Loop is the Heritage Trails little brother, in that it follows part of the same trail, but does not reach as far as the ocean. It is 5.8kms in length and is a moderately challenging trail.
There are several restaurants in Herolds Bay, including Herldsbaai Kafee, located close to the beachfront, Cucina and Herolds Bistro and Bar in the Oubaai Golf Estate and one of our favourites, Dutton’s Cove, which has a spectacular view over looking Herolds Bay beach.
